Diploma in Avalanche Studies


  • This Diploma develops your knowledge and skills in avalanche safety programmes for ski-fields, guiding or roading operations, or instruct in these areas.
  • The diploma incorporates the NZMSC Avalanche Safety Stage 2, which is a prerequisite for many professional leadership and decision-making roles in mountain terrain. Graduates will be equipped for employment as snow safety managers or instructors and will be able to apply their advanced knowledge in snow science and avalanche safety to ensure the safety of people and assets in alpine areas, especially avalanche prone areas.

This course involves self directed study with regular submissions to a tutor, a 5 day field training and an 8 day field assessment.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants are required to hold the NZMCS Avalanche Safety Stage 1 and to complete a health and safety declaration.
